Director — Alejandro Herrera
Alejandro Herrera was born in Caracas, Venezuela, a city of contrasts that deeply shaped Herrera’s view of the world. Holding Spanish nationality and based in Barcelona, Herrera works as an independent filmmaker between two worlds: the intensity of Latin America and the creative richness of the Mediterranean. Fiction is Herrera’s field — the space for turning the everyday into stories that resonate.
Herrera trained at the Universidad Nacional Experimental de las Artes (UNEARTE) in Caracas, earning a degree in Audiovisual Arts with a specialisation in Directing. There Herrera directed “Las Torres y el Viento” (2022), a first fiction short reflecting on the discovery of oil in Venezuela. The film screened at more than ten festivals in South America, including the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre festival, one of the highlights of Herrera’s career so far.
In 2023 Herrera moved to Barcelona for the Postgraduate Programme in Film Directing at the Escola de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC), creating Mandil — a fiction short about a day in the life of an immigrant waiter in the United States — in just six months. Herrera went on to the Master’s in Directing at ESCAC, developing “Catábasis”, another short planned for presentation on graduating in July 2025. Barcelona has become Herrera’s creative base, its unique energy driving the work.
